Sliding Puzzle

Sliding Puzzle is the classic fifteen puzzle rebuilt for the browser. Sixteen slots, fifteen numbered tiles and one empty square are all you get, and the only legal move is sliding a neighbouring tile into the gap. Every board is generated by walking the empty square randomly, which guarantees the arrangement is always solvable — there is no unfair shuffle waiting to waste your time. What makes it stick is the shape of the difficulty: the first ten tiles fall into place almost by instinct, and the last row is a small logic problem that rewards planning two or three moves ahead.

• Tap or click any tile directly next to the empty square to slide it.
• Work the tiles into numerical order, 1 through 15, with the gap at the bottom right.
• Use Shuffle at any time for a fresh arrangement — it counts as a move.
• The timer and move counter run from your first move until the board is solved.

• Only tiles orthogonally adjacent to the empty square can move.
• Every board is generated solvable; no arrangement is a dead end.
• Your score rewards a fast solve with a low move count.
• Win detection is automatic — the round finishes the moment the order is correct.

• Solve the top row first, then the second row, and never disturb what is finished.
• Leave the final two tiles of a row until last and rotate them into place together.
• Plan the empty square's route before you start sliding; wandering costs moves.
• The bottom two rows are solved column by column, not row by row.
• Slow down at the end. Most runs are lost by rushing the last four tiles.

A sliding puzzle is one of the few games where you can see the entire problem at once and still be surprised by it. There is no hidden information and no luck, so a better score is always the result of a better plan — which is exactly why players immediately want another board.

Is every sliding puzzle board solvable?

Yes. Boards are generated by shuffling from the solved state, so a solution always exists.

How is my score calculated?

You start from a fixed pool of points and lose points for each move and each second taken.

Does the Shuffle button reset my timer?

No. It gives you a new arrangement but the clock and move counter keep running.

Can I play Sliding Puzzle on a phone?
